V12 / 65 AMG / 600 Benz’s
While I admire their appearance, and respect their performance, I have to wonder why someone in Canada would buy a V12 Mercedes Benz. I have been thinking about this for a while, so please excuse the length of this post:
Of the three Mercedes classes (S-sedan, CL-coupe, and SL-roadster) available in V12’s, the difference in performance/utility when compared to the V8 of the same class is negligible. However, the price differential is substantial! Consider the following numbers from Mercedes-Benz Canada’s website:
-S550 4Matic (V8) vs. S600 (V12)- The V12 costs $63,500 more, and 0-60 is 1.1 seconds quicker, with the exact same electronically limited 210km/h top speed.
-S63 AMG (V8) vs. S65 AMG (V12)- The V12 costs $83,500 more, 0-60 is 0.2 seconds quicker(!!!), with the same 250km/h top speed.
-SL550 (V8) vs. SL600 (V12)- $50k premium, 0.9 seconds quicker, same top speed.
-SL63 AMG (V8) vs. SL65 AMG (V12)- $87k premium, 0.3 seconds quicker, same top speed.
